The Loose Parts Play Book: A Special Edition for Families
Loose parts is a theory of play that empowers children with materials and objects that they naturally interact with in their environments. Play is fundamental, but empowering children with environments and tools we can further inspire curiosity, embody agency, and more. Let the kids play, let that play be with loose parts. STEM – STEAM List 2020
Each year we curate a list of materials that we are able to test out. These materials go through some kid and adult testing to see what materials will engage kids in hands on play for deep thinking. The materials on this list have been tested with kids ages 2-10 and have made the list as valuable items to consider for your STEM/STEAM/Maker/Tinker labs in preschools, libraries, play-cafes, and elementary schools. We do not receive products for free and are not supported in any way by publishers or authors that make our list. When we are looking for materials we specifically look for developmentally appropriate opportunities that are easy for young children to interact with and use independently. Because our age range is significant we look for different elements of design, adaptability, and functionality. Our goal with all materials and books is clear: we want to ignite the natural curiosity of our kids. Purchase the 2020 STEM STEAM List.
